Review - Keep Me Still by Caisey Quinn

Keep Me Still

Keep Me Still

By
Caisey Quinn

Blurb:

Scarred by loss, Layla leaves her hometown of Hope Springs, Georgia, hoping to put her painful past behind her and start over in college in California. When she runs into Landen at freshmen orientation, she has a choice to make. Reinforce those steel walls she's built up around herself or give the only boy who can keep her still a second chance.

Landen’s more than ready to tear down those walls, but this time when they come crashing down, they might bury her.

Info:

As a Caisey Quinn Fangirl, I would read almost anything she writes. No really, I would actually read a story about toilet paper if she wrote it!

But no matter how many stories of hers I read (Girl with GuitarGirl on Tour)...Her stories just keep getting better!

My version of Keep Me Still includes a copy of Let You Leave which is a prequel Novella so I'll requiew the two of these together.

Let You Leave Blurb:

Layla Flaherty had the perfect life, or close to it. Until a stranger gunned her parents down right in front of her, leaving her with seizure inducing PTSD. After years of trying to pass as normal and failing miserably, she resigns herself to being invisible. But new to town Landen O’Brien sees her, and he likes what he sees. Much to Layla’s surprise, he doesn’t freak out when she has a seizure in front of him. He does the exact opposite, calming her until the tremors subside. But Landen has secrets of his own. Secrets that will either bind them together or tear them apart.

Review:

"He holds me, he keeps me still. Like he always has"

This is such a stunning novel - it covers some very difficult topics, such as abuse, violence, death, PTSD, illness and young love, and it covers them beautifully.

Lets start with Let You Leave as this is where the story truly begins.

Layla is a young girl who is trying her damn hardest to get through her Senior Year unnoticed. Which, for any normal teenage is difficult, but for her, it is almost impossible. Because she is "Freaky Flaherty" - The Orphan. The Orphan who's parents were shot in front of her. The Orphan who suffers from seizures.

Landed is an athletic High School student who travels all over America following his Dad - An Army Colonel with one hell of a temper. He only sticks around to protect his fragile Mom.

None of them are actually living - they are both just Surviving

Then their eyes meet in the school hallway and both of their lives change forever.

This beauriful novella helps us inderstand the story in Keep Me Still, it gives us an intro to our lead characters and sets the scene for their college lives.

Keep Me Still...I honestly don't know how to put into words just how stunning a story this is. It is touching, heart breaking, full of loss and leaves you full of hope.

I don't want to give too much of this story away but what I will tell you is this:

  • Layla is a strong young woman going through what can only be described as turmoil
  • Landen loves Layla more than he ever thought possible - he would do anything for her
  • Layla's Aunt Kate is a bit of a controlling bitch, even if it is meant with the best of intentions
  • Corin, Layla's roommate, will make you laugh with her witty one liners and outlook on life
  • You will NEVER look at Cherries in the same way EVER again...

Keep Me Still will break your heart - over and over again. Just when you think all hope is lost, something incredible happens and restores your faith in humanity. It will leave you with a warm fuzzy feeling and with a huge contented smile on your face!

I absolutely loved it!
Caisey Quinn my Gorgeous Girl...you did it again!

Review - Off Course by Sawyer Bennett

Off Course by Sawyer Bennett

Off Course (Off Series, #4)

Blurb:

Renner Caldwell has her life perfectly mapped out. She has the ideal relationship, the perfect job and all is right in her world. When a shameful turn of events happens, she boards the first plane bound for Ireland to lick her wounds and get her head back on straight.

Cillian O’Bradaigh is the sexy, front man to the Irish rock band, Over The Edge. His rising fame and sultry voice make him every woman’s fantasy come true. Not to mention his single-minded determination. To put it simply: what Cillian wants, Cillian always gets. And he wants Renner, because there’s just something about the flame-haired beauty he has to possess.

If their relationship was just about sex and rock n’ roll, it would be easy for them to get lost in their desires. Only their relationship is anything but a hook-up. Will lies, deceit and hidden tragedy get in the way, making the path to true love uncertain? Or will the girl whose been knocked Off Course, find her footing with the man who is teaching her it’s okay to lose control?

Review

Off Course is the 4th in the Off Series by Sawyer Bennett (all links below) and can be read in sequence or as a stand alone.

Ok, time for a bit of background information on our lead Character and how she ties in with the others in the Off Series:

Renner is Flynn's Brother
Renner and Flynn's Cousins are Lincon (Book 2) and Nixon (Book 3)
Lincon play Hockey and his Team mate is Ryan (Book 1)
Flynn's story will be (Book 4) and the final installment

Right, confusing bit over, lets tell some of Renner & Cillian's story...

*Warning: Ladies, prepare to Swoon and drop your panties for Cillian!*

Renner meets Cillian when she is 17 and spending time in Ireland with her Family. They share a passionate moment, sensual and touching, then nothing. Renner goes back to New Jersey and Cillian rises to Rock Star Fame.

Renner is hiding out in Ireland because she has lost her job with an airline. There is more to this story but you can read about it when you buy the book. She gets an apartment and a job at her Uncle Keefe's popular bar in the centre of Dublin and everything is coasting along quite fine.

Until Cillian O'Bradaigh.

Cillian is the lead singer of Over The Edge, a rock band originating from Dublin, Ireland. Cillian is just delicious. Tattooed, pierced, muscly and demanding. I swear, I was dreaming of his lip-rings for a good few nights after I finished this book! Never found them sexy before, but now, I would LOVE to kiss them.

Over and Over and Over.

"Cillian leans in closer so he's wispering, clearly not wanting the others to hear. "First, I'm not pestering you. I'm trying to make it clear that I want to fuck you into oblivion. Second, there is no other woman that I'm interested in. Clear enought for you?""

Cady is Renner's Cousin and Cady's best friend is Teagan. These two are joined at the hip and their comedy could rival Laurel and Hardy. They provided the comedy factor!

""Then let's come back here to your place after and disclose all of our dirty, sexy secrets" Teagan chimes in. "I had a hot date last weekend with one of my co-workers and he was hung like a race horse. I can't wait to tell you about it""

I absolutely love this series - 5 Stars!

Cannot wait on Book 5!!

Review: Losing Hope

* * * Not Enough Stars In The World Can Do This Book Justice * * *

Losing Hope (Hopeless, #2)

Losing Hope by Colleen Hoover

Also known as...

*5 Incredible, I-Live-You, Stars*

Book 1 in this series is Hopeless (my review for this can be found here - http://addicted2b00ks.blogspot.co.uk/...)

Hopeless (Hopeless, #1)
“I can't explain to you how perfect this girl is. And when I say perfect, I mean imperfect, because there's just too much wrong with her. But everything wrong with her is everything that draws me in and makes her perfect.”

Losing Hope is Hopeless from Dean Holder's point of view and that made me very very nervous.

BUT

I should have known to trust Colleen Hoover because she did not dissappoint! This felt like an entirely new story with references to Hopeless rather than a re-hash of a story. I absolutely LIVE this book!

Blurb:

In Hopeless, Sky left no secret unearthed, no feeling unshared, and no memory forgotten, but Holder’s past remained a mystery.

Still haunted by the little girl he let walk away, Holder has spent his entire life searching for her in an attempt to finally rid himself of the crushing guilt he has felt for years. But he could not have anticipated that the moment they reconnect, even greater remorse would overwhelm him…

Sometimes in life, if we wish to move forward, we must first dig deep into our past and make amends. In Losing Hope, bestselling author Colleen Hoover reveals what was going on inside Holder’s head during all those hopeless moments—and whether he can gain the peace he desperately needs

I'm going to, where possible, keep this review about Losing Hope and limit my references to Hopeless but this may be impossible!

Dean Holder blames himself for his Sister Lesslie's suicide. He also hates her for putting him through the aftermath of suicide, none of which we really find out about in Hopeless.

Dean Holder blames himself for Hope being taken from under his nose when she was a young girl. He watched her cry on the pavement, he watched her hurt and he watched her get into a car with a stranger, never to be seen again.

Dean Holder blames himself for not protecting Lesslie and Hope, for allowing them to hurt and doing nothing to take it away.

Dean Holder thinks he is completely Hopeless.

“But I’ve learned over the past year what it really means to be able to
miss someone. In order to miss someone, that means you were privileged enough to have
them in your life to begin with.”

I don't know if I felt more emotionally involved in this story as I always find it difficult to listen to/watch a man hurt emotionally or if it really was just more emotional. Whatever it was - I hurt, I ached, I cried and I broke my heart over and over again.

This is the first book in a long time that has touched me so much that I've been reduced to tears. I'm talking BIG, FAT, UGLY tears and body wracking sobs. I'm sure my mum thinks there is something mentally wrong with me after witnessing me reading the last 10% of this book.

BLUB FEST

There are several hilarious moments in this novel - laugh out loud funnies:

“I call her Val because it's short for Valium and I always tell her she needs to take that shit by the bucketful. I wasn't lying when I said she was fucking crazy"

There is no question about recommending this - it is a MUST READ. Prepare to be emotionally spent - Over and Over.

You will never be the same again but it is SOOOOOOOOOOOOO worth it!

Tangled

Tangled

Emma Chase

**5 LAUGH OUT LOUD STARS**

Tangled (Tangled, #1)

Blurb:

Drew Evans is a winner. Handsome and arrogant, he makes multimillion dollar business deals and seduces New York’s most beautiful women with just a smile. He has loyal friends and an indulgent family. So why has he been shuttered in his apartment for seven days, miserable and depressed?

He’ll tell you he has the flu.

But we all know that’s not really true.

Katherine Brooks is brilliant, beautiful and ambitious. She refuses to let anything - or anyone - derail her path to success. When Kate is hired as the new associate at Drew’s father’s investment banking firm, every aspect of the dashing playboy’s life is thrown into a tailspin. The professional competition she brings is unnerving, his attraction to her is distracting, his failure to entice her into his bed is exasperating.

Then, just when Drew is on the cusp of having everything he wants, his overblown confidence threatens to ruin it all. Will he be able untangle his feelings of lust and tenderness, frustration and fulfillment? Will he rise to the most important challenge of his life?

Can Drew Evans win at love?

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Do you see that Unshowered, unshaven heap on the couch? The guy in the dirty gray T-shirt and ripped sweatpants? That's me, Drew Evans"

This is how we meet Drew - Our Rich, Successful, Sexy, Man-Slut of a lead male. At his lowest point - think rock bottom, dig deeper and wallow in self pity lowest of low.

AND HE WAS STILL HILARIOUS!!

I needed something light to read because the drama of all the heavy-issue books I've been reading (and loving, can I just add) are beginning to take their toll on me!

Enter Tangled!

I laughed from the off until the end. Like gut clutching, shake from head to toe laughing! I earned quite a few funny looks from my colleagues in the lunch room (because Tangled was so addictive I HAD to read it at lunch!).

This book was a cross between a Chick-Lit, Erotica, New Adult and Humor. The Erotica was few and far between but VERY HOT, the chick lit element was evident, it covered the age range of a typical New Adult novel but the overriding element was Hilarity.

I don't want to go into the story too much - it is ever so slightly predictable (very very slightly) so I'll just mention some things I loved.

  • Kate - She was young, ambitious, clever, funny and sexy.

  • Drew - Where do I start?? He is a man-slut, no quibbles about it. But somehow I STILL managed to fall in love with him and his trying-to-change-man-slut ways!

  • Mackenzie - She is so honest, innocent and adoreable.

 My Favourite Quotes:

"I mean a grab-my-ass, rub-my-junk, why-don't-you-push-my-wheelchair-into-the-broom-closet-so-we-can-get-nasty kind of thing. It's f$%king disturbing"

"It's official. Brace yourselves. Hell has actually frozen the fcuk over"

“You know on TV when there’s one of those awkward, shocking moments and all you hear are the crickets in the background?
Well chirp fucking chirp...this is one of those moments.”

“For God's sake, don't let her watch Cinderella. What kind of example is that? A mindless twit who can't even remember where she left her damn shoe, so she has to wait for some douchebag in tights to bring it to her? Give me a frigging break!”

“God. I may end up being the first man in history capable of masturbating without touching himself. Look, Mom—no hands.”

“He moved his trunk-like manhood toward the weeping petals of her womanly center.'
Who the f*ck talks like that?!”

Do yourselves a favour - Read this.

Quickly.

Like now.

Entwined with You

Entwined with You

Sylvia Day

**4.75 Stars**

Entwined with You (Crossfire, #3)

I LOVE Gideon Cross. Like heart stopping, swooning, gushing, fainting - outright adore him.

Blurb:

From the moment I first met Gideon Cross, I recognized something in him that I needed. Something I couldn’t resist. I saw the dangerous and damaged soul inside–so much like my own. I was drawn to it. I needed him as surely as I needed my heart to beat.

No one knows how much he risked for me. How much I’d been threatened, or just how dark and desperate the shadow of our pasts would become.

Entwined by our secrets, we tried to defy the odds. We made our own rules and surrendered completely to the exquisite power of possession

Sylvia Day has managed to create a character that is:
  • Rich, but not Overtly Flashy
  • Gorgeous, but not Too Perfect
  • Broken, but not Irrepairable
  • Loving - possively so, but SO SWEET with it

Bared to You was a wonderful introduction to Gideon - It told us enough to fall for him, but didn't give too much away.

Reflected in You was a drama filled, stop-you-in-your-tracks, jaw dropping continuation of Gideon and Eva's story.

Entwined with You was a whole other ballgame.

"Its Killing me," he said gruffly. "Being without you. Missing you. I feel like my F$%king sanity depends on you, Eva, and you want me to be happy about that?"

It wasn't filled with drama.
It wasn't filled with mush.
It wasn't filled with secrecy.

But...

I Loved it!!

It WAS filled with HOT sex.
Like Fifty Shades eat-your-heart-out HOT HOT HOT Sex.

“Honestly, Gideon Cross had been designed to fcuk a woman right out of her mind.”

“You like sex, angel,” he purred. “Nothing wrong with that. You’re greedy and insatiable, and I love it. I love knowing that once I get inside you, you’re going to suck me dry. Then you’ll want to do it again.”

This story was sweet, there were still some shocks and it was filled with love.

I subtracted 0.25 stars because I found the first 40% really slow. I actually thought I was going to have to either give up or ask for spoilers to entice me to keep going but I should have known Sylvia wouldnt dissappoint! If you feel like this, please please please keep going with it - it gets there nd I understand why the pace was slowed - it was essential to the story.

A Moment

* * * 5 Beautiful, Heartwrenching, Sexy Stars * * *

“Moment: The dictionary defines a moment as a minute portion or point of time. But for me, it’s more. I see a moment the way a scientist does… the product of quantity (as a force) and the distance to a particular axis or point. A moment is that indefinable period in your life that only makes sense when you look back and you realize you made the right choice. I didn’t know it then, but I made the right choice and I’d do it all over again.

This is my moment…

Liliana Delgado”

Now THAT is how to write a love story!
I got this book as part of the New Adult Book club on Goodreads, and was given 3 weeks to read and review. Now, I'd just finished another 5 star book and was looking for something slightly lighter, slightly less intense and slightly more cheerful so I thought 'yeah I'll give this a go'.

How WRONG was I?!?

This book captivated me from the first page, I actually could not put it down. I was sitting at work thinking...3 hours until I can read another chapter or 2!

I finished the final chapter this morning before work and the whole 40 minute drive in, all I could think was WOW, Marie Hall can write! The story is still playing over and over in my head and I don't think it'll stop anytime soon.

This review may be a little patchy as it is very difficult to discuss this story without spoilers appearing.

Ryan is a broken man, shattered and barley existing when he meets Lili - he was in the navy and, since his departure, became a professional fighter. He likes the hurt of fighting, he likes physical hurt in general as it numbs the mental and emotional pain.

“The water hurts. Hurts so bad, it’s so damn hot, and I know I shouldn’t be sitting here like this. I’ll burn. But it’s not taking the dirty off.”

“Squeezing my eyes shut, a terrible sound draws from my mouth. One I’d never heard before. I can’t do this anymore. Can’t pretend. Can’t keep lying that it isn’t hurting, isn’t killing me a little every day.”

Lili meets Ryan through his cousin Alex who works at a local coffee shop that she frequents. On first impressions, she thinks he is a stunning, sexy, pain in the a$$!! But she feels some sort of magic attraction to him.

“There are moments in life when a sixth sense spurs you on to consider something you wouldn’t otherwise”

"Intense. Crazy. Passion"

“Eventually I stop thinking altogether.”

I can't really say much more without giving away anything and spoiling it for all you potential readers!

All I'll say is, this book is outstanding and focuses on subjects, which to some, may be a bit taboo and difficult, but Marie writes so beautifully that this book is an absolute pleasure to read and I would recommend it to anyone.

Hopeless

**5 Heartbreaking Stars**

Hopeless

Blurb: Sometimes discovering the truth can leave you more hopeless than believing the lies…

That’s what seventeen-year-old Sky realizes after she meets Dean Holder. A guy with a reputation that rivals her own and an uncanny ability to invoke feelings in her she’s never had before. He terrifies her and captivates her all in the span of just one encounter, and something about the way he makes her feel sparks buried memories from a past that she wishes could just stay buried.

Sky struggles to keep him at a distance knowing he’s nothing but trouble, but Holder insists on learning everything about her. After finally caving to his unwavering pursuit, Sky soon finds that Holder isn’t at all who he’s been claiming to be. When the secrets he’s been keeping are finally revealed, every single facet of Sky’s life will change forever.

“I'm not a sucker for happily ever afters, but if these two characters don't get theirs I might climb inside this e-reader and lock them both inside that damn garage forever.”

A quote from Sky (Lead Female) - She said it & I was thinking it!

Hopeless is a beautiful book, it has twists, turns, flips and jumps - it is incredible.

Dean Holder has secrets - it started with an incident that, to some, may seem insignificant but to him changed the course of his entire life.

“My eyes trail from his hand to the tattoo written in small script across his forearm. Hopeless”

Sky is just a normal teenage girl, she has a best friend, a mother with whom she has a great relationship, she is academically clever and seems to have no worries. Until she meets Dean Holder...

This book made me cry - I mean big, fat, wet, ugly tears:

“Your heart is so beautiful and someday someone is going to love that heart like it deserves to be loved.”

This book made me laugh out loud - gut clutching laughter:

“Holder: "I thought Mormon's weren't allowed to have caffeine?"
Breckin: "I decided to break that rule the morning I woke up gay.”

I went through every emotion in the book, emotions I thought only real life could evoke - Read this, it is simply stunning.

Slammed

*****5 Outstanding Stars*****

Slammed

Slammed (Slammed, #1)

Blurb: Layken's father died suddenly, leaving her to gather every ounce of strength to be a pillar for her family, in order to prevent their world from falling apart. Now her life is taking another unexpected turn…

Layken's mother gets a job which leads to an unwanted move across country. However, a new home means new neighbours… and Layken's new neighbour is the very attractive Will Cooper.
Will has an intriguing passion for slam poetry, and a matching passion for life. The two feel an irresistible attraction but are rocked to the core when a shocking revelation brings their romance to a screeching halt.

Layken and Will must find a way to fight the forces that threaten to tear them apart… or learn to live without each other.

Oh my Suck and Sweet that was intense!

“I got schooled this yearby
a
boy
.

A boy that I'm seriously, deeply, madly, incredibly, and undeniably in love with.
And he taught me the most important thing of all...

To put the emphasis
On life
.”

Slammed is one of those books that, from the opening page, grabs you by the heart, twists and turns until all your hope is gone, and just when you think there is no way anything can get worse - it does. It kills you inside, making you weep tears of utter hopelessness and hurt. Then, only when you are in the depths of depression, something incredible happens.

Nope, that wasn't an unfinished sentance - something incredible does happen, I'm just waiting on you reading the book to find out what it is!!

Layken is just a young girl who has lost her father, moved halfway across the country and is trying to get her life on track when BOOM! Enter Will.

Sweet, handsome, sexy, loving, broken Will.

"I've never regretted it. Questioned it? Sure. But never regretted.

"Is there a difference?" I ask.

"Absolutely. Regret is counterproductive. It's looking back on a past that you can't change. Questioning things as they occur can prevent regret in the future. I questioned a lot about my relationship with your father. People make spontaneous decisions based off of their hearts all the time. There's so much more to relationships than just love
."

Coleen Hoover is an incredible writer - I'm not going to say "you should read this book". I'm TELLING you that you HAVE to read it.

The Boy Who Sneaks in My Bedroom Window

*5 Outstanding Stars*

The Boy Who Sneaks in My Bedroom Window

The Boy Who Sneaks in My Bedroom Window

Blurb: Amber Walker and her older brother, Jake, have an abusive father. One night her brother's best friend, Liam, sees her crying and climbs through her bedroom window to comfort her. That one action sparks a love/hate relationship that spans over the next eight years.

Liam is now a confident, flirty player who has never had a girlfriend before. Amber is still emotionally scarred from the abuse she suffered at the hands of her father. Together they make an unlikely pair.

Their relationship has always been a rocky one, but what happens when Amber starts to view her brother's best friend a little differently? And how will her brother, who has always been a little overprotective, react when he finds out that the pair are growing closer?

“He turned to me, and do you know what he said to me ? He said in a deadly serious tone, 'Momma, am I dead?' And I said 'no honey, you're not dead', and he shook his head, looking all confused about something. Then he pointed to you dancing and said, 'if I'm not dead, then why is there an Angel in our house.'”

This is my Favourite Book. Ever. Well...my Favourite YA novel anyway. I have lots of favourite books but this is my FAVOURITE FAVOURITE!

Kirsty Moseley is an amazing author - This was the first ever book of hers I picked up and I'll shamefully admit that it was the cover that sucked me in *Hangs head in Shame*. However, was it not for my want of an aesthetically pleasing cover, I would never have stumbled upon this gem of a book.

This starts off quite unbelievably - a boy sneaks in his neighbours window every night for almost 10 years and NEVER gets caught? Hmmm, not buying it. Ladies and Gents - GET PAST IT, allow yourself to be a fantacist for a few hundred pages, because once you let youself into Amber and Liam's world, you will fall head over heels in love with them and their families.

I'm a big believer in telling people how I felt reading a book rather than the story so here goes, I'll try to unjumble my emotions for a few minutes and put them down on paper...

Happy
Tearful
Hurt
Loved
Young
Too old for my years
Pretty
Sexy
Ugly
Adored
Hated
Heart broken
Empty
Fulfilled
And finally...Mushy(!)

I know all of the above are contradictions but that is how good this book is - it takes you places you never thought you would want to go.

If ratings went any higher, this would get 100+*'s.
