Book Excerpt

As we headed back out to Fifth Avenue, my phone vibrated in my pocketbook. I dug it out only to find that it was Stephen calling yet again. Rolling my eyes at Renatta, I told her I needed to take the call.
"What, Stephen?” I hissed, walking several steps away from Renatta.
“Ella, thank you for taking my call,” he said politely.
“I have nothing to say to you. My feelings about what you have done have not changed and will not. Ever,” I said angrily.
“Ella, please if you could just hear me out,” he pleaded.
“No, Stephen. Stop calling me. You need to move on. Goodbye.”
“Ella, wait!” Stephen shouted, but I hung up not interested in hearing what else he had to say.
Not caring that I was standing in the middle of Fifth Avenue on a busy weekday, I closed my eyes and took several deep breaths. When I opened my eyes, I was staring into the beautiful blue eyes of Xavier Hart. I jumped back letting out a yelp. A slow smile spread across his face.
“We meet again, Ms. Martin,” he purred.
I stopped breathing. I am once again a deer in headlights.
“Nice to see you again, Mr. Hart,” Renatta said.
I started at the sound of Renatta’s voice. How the hell did she get over to me so quickly?
“Ms. Stevenson.” Xavier nodded his head in her direction, but his eyes never left mine.
“What are you doing here?” I asked. My tone came out much harsher than I intended.
“I just finished having lunch at Rock Bottom with my brother, Gabriel,” he said, sounding slightly affronted. “I came out of the restaurant, and was surprised to see you standing here. I thought I would be friendly and say hello,” he said, smiling as his tone softened.
“I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to….” my voice trailing off. “I, um, should thank you, of course, for the beautiful roses,” I said nervously. Renatta placed her hand on my arm to stop me from shuffling from foot to foot. Why did he make me feel so nervous? Was it the suit? He did look simply delicious in a grey suit, black dress shirt, and grey tie.
“It was my pleasure, Ms. Martin,” he said smiling. “I’ll leave you ladies to enjoy the rest of your afternoon. But first, may I have a moment, Ms. Martin?”
I gave a quick, panicked glance at Renatta. Her eyes widened as she shook her head urging me to go with him. Turning back to Xavier, I smiled. "Um, sure. Please, call me Ella,” I said. What the hell did he want that he couldn’t say in front of Renatta?
He took my elbow and led me a few feet away from her. Once again, a warm sensation spread through me when his hand wrapped around my arm causing me to gasp. That strange electric energy I felt on the plane pulsed between us. I saw a small smile play on his lips, which made me frown. Did he feel this strange electricity between us too?
“Ella, I’m normally not this straightforward, but there is something about you. I can’t stop thinking about you since I sat next to you on that plane,” he said. “I think it’s fate or destiny, perhaps that keeps bringing us together.” He paused for a moment. Letting out a humourless laugh, he smirked. “I know that sounds like a line, but there is something between us, and I know you feel it too. Please, have dinner with me so we can get to know one another.” His gaze was giving nothing away. “I have a function that I need to attend tomorrow evening, but I would love to see you Sunday,” he said, sounding hopeful as he smiled.
Yes, he was feeling it too. I couldn’t lie to myself any longer. The truth was I couldn’t stop thinking about him either. Hell, I was even dreaming about him.

About the Author

I am a romance novel junkie who has many book boyfriends, and it all started with a little book by the name of Twilight. I went from being someone who hardly ever read to someone who is always buried in a book. For years friends told me I should write a book. Well, I’ve finally listened to them. After taking writing classes through my local community college, I put fingers to keyboard and got busy! And that is how my first novel, Starting Over was born.

Excerpt

I focused on those gorgeous lips. “I think you’re all bark and no bite, and that you’re trying to chase me away with your bad attitude because you’re afraid of me. I bet you like to be in control of everything all the time, don’t you?”

She swallowed and I felt everything below my belt tighten to the point of pain. I dug my hand into the hunk of hair at the back of her head and gently pulled her toward me. She didn’t resist as my heart rate picked up and her breaths came in little pants.

“You’re afraid you won’t be able to control a guy like me, aren’t you? And you know what? You’re right. You wouldn’t be able to control me. But I’d take you on the ride of your life, and you’d thank me for it afterwards.” I leaned in ever so slowly, my lips hovering over hers as her eyes fluttered shut. I could feel the heat from her face, and her chest grazed mine, setting off sparks all up and down my spine. Her hair was like strands of silk, and I gripped the back of her head tighter, pulling her that infinitesimal bit closer. She had a quick intake of breath and I felt my chest clutch.

My Review

"I'm not that guy. I never will be. I'm like my old man and his old man before him. We don't rescue people. We aren't nice guys. We don't fall in love."

Oh Selena. Selena, Selena, Selena.

This is quite possibly the BEST EVER NOVELLA I've had the pleasure (and honour) of reading.

It has the right amount of angst, tension, action, sweetness and heart-stopping moments.

"I usually go balls-to-the-wall for what I want"

We meet Gabe in Hidden (Click to read my review). He is the best friend of Nick, Hidden's lead male. He is an intreaguing character and I just knew he had a story to tell.

Gabe is a complete Alpha Male - Hot, Firey Tempered, Badass and completely H.O.T!! This story is set in Afghanistan, where Gabe is stationed with the Forces.

Alexis is a do-gooder. She comes to Afghan with the UN to do some work with locals who have been affected by the war. She is under the illusion that the US Army cause most of the disruption in war-torn area's. Gabe is quick to set her straight in his no-nonsense way.

"We shoot if we have to, and a lot more often we get shot at. This is the Army sweetheart, not a freaking hippie peace rally."

There is connection between Gabe and Alexis from the offset.

"You and I have unfinished business, babe. I'll be seeing you soon."

But there is a catch. Alexis has a boyfriend back home. And Gabe is many things, but a home-wrecker is not one of them.

The rest of this story is filled with action, tension and heart-in-mouth moments. I felt...

0% - 20% Relaxed and gripped in the story

20% - 50% Giddy and waiting on the kissykissy to start.

50% - 90% Raw, ill, worried and completely taken in

90% - 100% Happy

You gotta go read this people - 5 Outstanding stars!

Futures & Frosting - Tara Sivec

**4.75 Laugh Out Loud Stars**

Futures and Frosting (Chocolate Lovers, #2)

Note 1: This is the second in the Chocolate Lovers Series (My review can be found here: Here!!)

Note 2: The ONLY reason I have subtracted 0.25 of a star is because it took me 50 pages to laugh out loud. That is the only reason - it is still a HILARIOUSLY FUNNY novel that I would reccommend to everyone.

Ok, on with the review.

Stop reading this review RIGHT NOW if you have not read Seduction & Snacks.

Claire and Gavin return to your hands in this outragously funny sequel to Seduction & Snacks!

“It’s mind-blowing and delicious and better than finding a pot of gold, a unicorn, and a leprechaun who shits diamonds at the end of a rainbow.”

Gavin is, quote possibly, even funnier than he was in Book 1. He made me giggle at least every 5 pages!

“I'm sorry, what do you want to order?"
"A virgin. I want to order a virgin.”

“I'm going to put corn and hot sauce on your wiener, and then I'll hit you in the face with it. Hit you in the face with your corny wiener.”

Claire is just as scatty, embarrasing and ditzy as ever - the main reason us readers fell in love with her. Because there is a tiny bit of us in her! We can all relate to her outrageousness!

"I should have sold you to that traveling circus when you were four.”

“Mortification, party of one, your table is now ready.”

Carter is, well, just Swoon Worthy!

“I love both of you exactly the way you are. I love that you have no filter, and I adore that Gavin can make grown men cry. There is not one thing I would change about either of you, and if anyone doesn’t like it, they can kiss my ass. You guys are my life and my family now. Nothing else matters.”

The entire book was read in about 3 hours and I'm heading onto book 3 in the near future...just go read it ok!!

Review

This is a continuation from Tripped Up Love (Click here to read my review).

For those who have not read Tripped Up Love - STOP READING NOW. The New Ever After is not a stand-alone novel and follows Tripped Up Love directly.

ReCap:

Heather was a happily married mother of three who lived the perfect suburban life. Then her perfect husband has a heart attack and dies. Her world is thrown into complete dissaray and she struggles to cope. In comes Peter. A 40 something, unattached, baggage free, world famous author and he helps Heather heal. They fall madly in love and less than two years after Hank's death, she and Peter are married with 6 month old twins.

Now...

We slip back into Heahter & Peters world immediately. Their world is utterly chaotic - PTA meetings, school runs, bake sales, school trips, birthday parties, doctors appointments and everything else that comes with having 5 kids between the ages of 0 and 13.

Heather is suffering from stress - this much is obvious in the first few pages and Peter just wants to help her. He books 2 trips - One for just the two of them, and a family one.

Jenny, Heather's best friend, is still a constant in all of their lives. She is an employee as well as a friend to Heather. Jenny is always on hand to help when needed and she is more than willing to assist the grandparents in looking after the twins until Heather and Peter are back from their delayed Honeymoon.

Throw in some secrets, a dramatic (and I'm talking HEART STOPPING stuff) event, some touching moments and you have a recipie for a heartwarming Novel. We also get a little sneaky hint as to what is to come in Book 3 and it sounds goooooooooooood!!

Interview

  1. Where did the Idea for Tripped Up Love 1,2 (&3) come from?

I wanted to write a romance novel for people my age, my peers. I love romance novels but thought it would be nice to read a second chance at love story. So I wrote one!

  1. Who is your favourite character in the books?

People think I am just like Heather. My friends say I am Heather! But I’m not. We are kind of different but we do have a lot of similarities. I have four kids and am happily married not a widow. I think people here my voice in Heather. I guess I identify with her the most. Peter is definitely my favorite though because I imagine him to be just like my crush, Adam Levine.

  1. Where do the places in your book come from? Have you visited them before?

I live in the area that I talk about, the 2-3-1-1-3. The places in the book are real places that I frequent. I have been to Maine but the places I mention in Maine are made up. All of the Virginia references are real!

  1. Do you see any of the characters ever having a spin off?

Book three is going to be about Jenny. There will still be some about Heather and Peter but the main part of the story will revolve around Jenny and her life.

  1. Where did the names of your characters come from?

This may sound weird but when I’m writing, names just come to me with the characters. My writing partner’s name is Jenni and her good friend is Heather so it was awkward that I used those names. I did try to change them but those were the only names that seemed right.

  1. When is Tripped Up Love 3 coming out???
Book three will be out in early 2014. There is a slight possibility it could be out before Christmas but I don’t want to rush it.
